![]() ![]() It’ll be interesting to see if the second game will capitalize on that and explore even further.īut, it’ll probably be quite some time before we get to that point.Darkest Dungeon – the absolutely brutal roguelike of RPG and Lovecraftian ilk from 2016 – is getting a sequel simply named “Darkest Dungeon 2”. Secondly, we already knew that the world of Darkest Dungeon was slightly bigger than what was depicted in the game, thanks to all the comics we saw that depicted each character’s journey to the hamlet. ![]() So the fact that he’s still narrating for this second story probably means he’s played a role, directly or otherwise, in this fantasy apocalypse. What interests me most at this exact moment are two things: one, the fact that the video itself is narrated by the Ancestor, who was an actual character in Darkest Dungeons, your character’s… father? Uncle? Relative. And we know that rather than having your characters explore one haunted location, the game will task players with surviving a long, grueling journey through a horror-fantasy apocalypse. We know the game will be bigger, as Red Hook has nearly tripled its staff (from five people to 14) since the release of the first game. We know almost nothing about this new game, outside of a few tidbits gathered from an exclusive mini-interview with the folks over at PC Gamer. ![]() And that’s what brings us to Darkest Dungeon 2: The Howling End. Specifically, they want to capitalize on the Darkest Dungeon brand and turn it into a fully-fledged series. They released two DLCs for the game, but it seems that studio Red Hook is ready to move on to bigger and better things. ![]() Turns out that maybe it did its job a little too well, but all the same it remains a super-solid roguelike RPG with lots to recommend, especially if you’re a big fan of Lovecraftian or Souls-like stories and challenge. Darkest Dungeon was released in 2016, but it was out well before then as an early access game, and in fact, was one of the champions of early access back when people were unsure if it was a good idea. ![]()
